    The Department of Sanskrit and Prakrit Languages is one of the oldest department in University of Pune. It's a National and International Centre for studies in Sanskrit,Pali and Prakrit Languages,where students from all over the country as well from abroad seek admission to the various courses offered by the department.
    The UGC has chosen this department for implementing special programmes such as : Centre for advanced studies in Sanskrit, university leadership programme, curriculum Development programme. Refresher Courses. The Department has collaborations with few foreign Universities in Japan (Kanazawa) and Switzerland(Lausanne) where exchange on both student and teacher level takes place.
    The Department also interacts with the organizations such as Bhandarkar Research Institute, Vaidik Sanshodhan Mandal, Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, Delhi, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts,Delhi, Universities of Cambridge,Oxford,Nagoya and Japan,Switzerland and Paris.
